Search engine robot is a computer program (bot) which browses the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated way providing up-to-date data and creating a copy of all the visited pages for later processing by a search engine. Search engines will index the downloaded pages in order to provide fast searches.
When search engine crawler visits your website, it follows hyperlinks as well as URLs included in the sitemap.xml file (if it exists), checks for updates and assigns new ranking values and the PageRank (if the algorithm triggers the change). However, even before they crawl your page, crawlers check if webmaster has not explicitly excluded the URL from indexing (using robots.txt file or the robots meta tag). Search engine spiders can visit your website as often as every 1-2 hours (if you’re a very active blogger or a newspaper) and as seldom as 3-4 weeks (if the site has been inserted into the supplemental search engine index).
